Family Programs

Jamestown Community Center’s Family Programs provide parents and caregivers with the tools, resources, and support needed to strengthen family bonds and create a nurturing environment for children to thrive. Through group-based programs, leadership development, and prevention services, families gain essential skills to foster healthy relationships, communication, and resilience.

Jamestown provides youth and families with high-quality opportunities to thrive. By fostering supportive relationships, enriching learning, and community engagement, Jamestown helps youth become successful adults. Over half of Jamestown’s teen staff are K-8 program graduates, working in after-school and summer programs. They gain meaningful job experience, financial training, college and career counseling, leadership development, and healthy lifestyle coaching.

100% of YAP & YIC participants graduate from high school and apply to a 2-or 4-year college.

By comparison, the SF Unified School District’s graduation rate from high school for Latino students during the 2017-2018 school year was 73.8%.

Strengthening Families Program (SFP)

SFP is a group-based program that aims at improving communication, problem-solving, and strengthening the overall bonding within the family unit. Parents will receive support in implementing effective discipline, developing healthier routines, and how to effectively support children in their day to day life at school and with their peers. Parents receive guidance on:

  • Effective discipline and healthy routines

  • Supporting children academically and socially

  • Reducing parental stress and improving relationships

  • Strengthening emotional self-regulation and communication skills

AmeriCorps VISTA Family Engagement

Through AmeriCorps VISTA, Jamestown works to better support low-income families and English Language Learners. Volunteer organizers recruit and assist parents in exercising leadership within their schools and communities, ensuring they have a voice in shaping their children’s education.

Life Skills Training (LST)

LST is a substance abuse and violence prevention program for 5th and 6th graders, developed in partnership with the San Francisco Department of Public Health. Based on over 35 years of research, it equips youth with the skills to resist alcohol, drugs, and tobacco while promoting positive development and reducing high-risk behaviors.

Jamestown’s Family Programs are dedicated to empowering parents and youth with the skills and support needed to build strong, healthy relationships. By fostering communication, resilience, and community involvement, we help families create a stable foundation for lifelong success.
