betty pazmino, board president

Betty Pazmiño is a native San Francisco Mission District homegirl and a dedicated Spanish bilingual educator, with a life-long fascination for African-influenced dance and music. Betty describes herself as a homegrown SFUSD teacher whose goal is to educate our community about the fact that brown and black families matter. She is the mother of two who are now adult children that have benefited from the programs that Jamestown and Loco Bloco provide as youth development. Betty is a very proud Libra that remembers what La Misión used to be like back in the day.

Betty works as a Content Specialist for Elementary English and Language Arts, in the San Francisco Unified School District. She is also a candidate for her Ph. D. in Education at the University of California, Berkeley.


ALEKS ZAVALETA, Vice president

Chef Aleks Zavaleta is the Mission Language Vocational School CO-Director, and Culinary & Hospitality Director.


Rich gross, board treasurer

Rich has lived in the Mission District for 30 years. At Enterprise Community Partners, he oversees Enterprise's affordable housing, community development, investment and strategic programs for the Bay area.  Those efforts include launching Enterprise's role in a groundbreaking program to revitalize public housing in SF, greening existing affordable housing, working with Bay Area communities on the foreclosure crisis and initiating investment in new affordable housing.  Previously, Rich managed and underwrote Low-Income Housing Tax Credit investments in California for Enterprise.

Rich is the Vice President and Northern California Market Leader at Enterprise Community Partners.



Born and raised in the Excelsior, Patricia’s education includes a Bachelor of Arts from City College and a Wedding Planner Certificate from Cal State East Bay. Patricia Barraza has served on the Loco Bloco board for 5 years before joining the Jamestown board in 2018.

Patricia is proud to serve as the Excelsior Beacon Director at James Denman Middle School.


Efrain has over 15 years of experience in the field of education, nonprofits, and working with immigrant families and youth. He is the proud father of a 6-year-old and a 10-year-old, who push him to become a better human being day by day. Efrain Barrera immigrated to San Francisco's Mission District from El Salvador at the age of 15. He attended Mission High School and the University of California, Berkeley, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Education.

Efrain is the Mission Promise Neighborhood K-12 Program Manager for MEDA.



From 1994 to 2003, Katie served as Co-Executive Director for the Jamestown Community Center, where the amazing staff, children and families of the Mission District taught her about the power of community. After Jamestown, Katie worked for 14 years at the Partnership for Children and Youth (PCY), a non-profit intermediary organization focused on improving practice and policy for after-school and summer programs in public schools and affordable housing.

Katie Brackenridge is an independent consultant focused on improving learning conditions and social-emotional supports for young people in public school systems.



Lisa is a 5th generation San Franciscan deeply interested in giving back to the diverse city that nurtured her interest in global cultures, particularly in Latin America. She earned her Masters Degree in Latin American politics and International Economics from the John Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. In 2010, Lisa went to work for the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department helping to foster public-private partnerships to support parks and recreational programming in SF. She lives in SF with her husband and two children. Lisa has assisted with fundraising and overall governance as a founding member of the Jamestown Council and a Board member since 2005.

Lisa is the Manager of Sponsorship’s and Events at San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department.



Gary has been on the Jamestown Board of Directors for 5 years. Gary earned his Bachelors Degree from Baylor University and his Masters in Business Administration from the Golden Gate University.

Gary is an Accounting Manager at Balco Properties in Oakland.




Renu Karir has worked for local nonprofits including the Jamestown Community Center and Homeless Prenatal Program. Renu holds graduate degrees in public health and management.

Renu is the Project Manager for On Lok, Bay Area Senior Services.


Paul Vega

Born and raised in San Francisco, Paul participated in the Loco Bloco youth program since age 14 and then volunteered for 10 years before joining the board. He earned his Bachelors Degree from the University of Arizona.

Paul is is an HR Business Partner in Emerging Tech Companies.
